SDV 100: The USF Experience
SDV 100: The USF Experience is designed to orient and motivate students toward academic success. The structure of the course centers on eight, one-hour classroom sessions designed to introduce first-year students at the University of Sioux Falls to the information, skills and habits of mind necessary to transition effectively to the college setting, in general, and the University of Sioux Falls, more specifically.
The course provides an introduction to the following:
- the significance and expectations related to the mission of the University of Sioux Falls as a Christian liberal arts university, including the cultivation of community, the relationship between Christianity and the mind and the role of the liberal arts in sustaining and furthering the conversation of humanity;
- foundational skills and habits of mind necessary for pursuing one's academic potential, including goal setting, time management, college level reading and writing, note taking and critical thinking;
- policies and programs offered by the University of Sioux Falls to support the academic growth and success of students.
Students also complete the College Student Inventory as a part of the course. This survey provides a snapshot of students' needs and desires, permitting them to tailor a portion of the assignments to their unique academic development and create an action plan for their success.
