Cultural Awareness Guidelines/Criteria

Adopted
by the Faculty 28 March 2007
To be eligible for “cultural
awareness” designation, a course must carry at least three credits and provide:
- an academic encounter with another culture including at
least three of:
- historical background
- literature and the arts
- social customs
- religious background and customs
- contact with people from the culture being studied
- a forum to help understand how one’s culture affects
one’s perception of the world
- possible ways for students to demonstrate familiarity
with the culture studied including, but not limited to:
- tests
- presentations
- papers
