Because history courses at USF include a broad range of topics,
places, and periods, students can always find something that fits
their programs and satisfies their curiosity. Divided almost
equally between U.S. and non-U.S. offerings, the history curriculum
explores human activity in various contexts and from different
perspectives.
Approximately half of the students who select the history major
at USF are preparing to teach history. A history major also
provides excellent preparation for careers in ministry, law, library
science, historical preservation, journalism, and museum work.
Unique opportunities -- Student majoring in history may receive a
departmental award for Outstanding Achievement in Historical
Studies. To qualify for this award, students must demonstrate
academic excellence by (1) maintaining a GPA of 3.3 or higher in
both their cumulative and major programs and (2) developing and
presenting a senior research project.
