University of Sioux Falls Health Insurance Information 2012-2013
The University of Sioux Falls is concerned for the health and wellness of our students and recommends that all full-time undergraduate students have health insurance. As a result of the Health Care Reform Act, the University of Sioux Falls Administration has decided it will not offer student health insurance this coming year. USF found the cost, for any plan it could provide, would be cost prohibitive for our students. Below is a list of insurance providers within the Sioux Falls area. If a student currently does not have insurance and would like to purchase insurance, these providers have said they would be willing to assist USF students.
The Health Care Reform Act allows students to stay under their parents health insurance policies until the age of 26. If this is an option for you, please make sure that the insurance will cover you in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Student athletes will be required to have proof of medical insurance in order to practice or compete. Each athlete will be charged $660 for an Individual Intercollegiate Sports Accident Plan through EIIA, and will be a mandatory charge if the athlete does not have current insurance. This Accident Plan is not a full medical plan, and only covers accidents or injuries that occur while participating in sport practices or events. If an athlete already has a primary medical insurance plan, they may present their insurance card to their coach before their first day of practice or within the first week of the semester (whichever comes first) and have the EIIA insurance waived. If an athlete already has primary medical insurance but would like to also have the EIIA plan as a supplemental policy, they may do so by notifying their coach when they turn in their proof of insurance. The University of Sioux Falls provides the Student Athletic Accident Insurance Plan for Excessive Coverage which is available as part of our participation in the NCAA.
