We spend Halloween pretending to be someone else but when November 1 and ALL SAINTS DAY comes around we are reminded to see ourselves as God sees us – as those loved and redeemed by Christ and even declared to be “saints” in him (see I Cor. 1:2). In Chapel Tuesday we will celebrate All Saints Day with a celebration of the diversity within the body of Christ. The Wind Ensemble will play but we will also have Jacob and Jessica leading in contemporary worship as you enter. Pizzazz will provide liturgical dance and, for an international touch, there will be a display in the lobby from 10,000 Villages store and pictures from Ghana by Kayla Tronvold while Gary Kashale shares some thoughts of what it was like to visit his mom’s orphanage in Africa. REMEMBER THAT THIS WEEK’S CHAPEL IS IN JESCHKE AUDITORIUM.
… “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” is the most natural and most human and most agonizing prayer in the gospels, and I think it is the foundation prayer of faith.
Flanner O’Connor Source: Letter to Alfred Corn, 1962
REMEMBER USF SERVES AT THE BANQUET WEDNESDAY MORNING
We have a dozen people signed up to start preparing the meal at 5:30 AM and another 25 signed up to arrive at 6:30 AM. At this point it does not look like we need any more workers but you can always pop in at 8th and Indiana and see if we need help. Given that it is early morning, it is easy for people to oversleep. If nothing else, simply enjoy the free breakfast and interact with the other guests. This, too, is ministry.
MONDAY USF/AUGIE CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST MEETS EVERY MONDAY NIGHT AT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE. USF students head over as a group every week. They meet by the TV in Java City at 8:45 and then head over together.
NOV. 12 WORK DAY SCHEDULED FOR USF STUDENTS AGAINST HUNGER
We produced over 11,000 meals on a couple weeks ago and due to the great interest that was expressed by our students we have scheduled another work night for next Thursday, November 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM (note the date change – there were too many conflicts going on November 10). The work site is located in the Avera building on 33rd and Minnesota. If you want to work, please come by the Student Development Office to sign up or email

We live in a world that is trapped in loneliness; a world in which people search through bars, the
internet, and churches to find community. Why is it so difficult to find and even more difficult to live out?
What is the biblical basis for community and what are its rewards? Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book Life
Together examines questions of community under the extreme circumstances of Nazi-controlled
Germany. Join us as we discover the lessons he learned and think about how they apply to our own situations.

A discussion on the Fruit of the Spirit seems very “Sunday schoolish” and bland, but our mission
is to offer a topical discussion on the utilization of the fruit of the spirit for the modern day college student. This group is going to be a fun and interesting way to converse more about how we can move
forward by incorporating the “Fruits” into our daily lives to become more spiritually mature. We will
examine one of the “Fruits” each week, and discuss how we begin living a life full of “Fruitfullness” and
not be old, bland, or boring while doing it!

Did you know Americans eat 19% of their meals in their cars? Do you multitask in everything
you do? Are you "running nowhere in every direction?" Spend some time with a few other girls to discover
what God has to say about this. We will explore how to slow down and walk with God in our everyday
chaos. Are you exhausted? Girls, this may be just the study for you.
Small Groups will meet for six weeks starting on Thursday, September 17th. If you
are looking for a way to get connected on campus, form deeper friendships, and
grow in your faith walk—be sure to attend a small group this fall! Questions?

THOT FOR THE DAY:
Psalm 41 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak… Ezekiel 16:49 Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. Proverbs 19:17 One who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD… 1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees another in need but has no pity, how can the love of God be in them? |
