Theological and philosophical studies at the University of Sioux Falls are designed to create a basis for an informed Christian world view, to equip students for current and future ministry, to provide a foundation for graduate study, and to strengthen their lives as Christians. The faculty are committed to helping our students develop a mature understanding of theology, including biblical studies, systematic theology, practical theology, as well as theology's interface with philosophy, other disciplines, and world religions. Students are encouraged and required to think critically and creatively about these matters and to express themselves clearly, sensitively, and persuasively. Beginning with a strong biblical foundation, students are enabled to approach ancient to modern theological and philosophical thought intelligently and constructively. The department aims to do its essential part in fulfilling the university's mission "to foster academic excellence and the development of mature Christian persons for service to God and humankind in the world." Our department is committed to both aspects of that mission, fostering academic excellence and developing mature Christians for service. Both are pursued in an integrated and balanced way and are the heartfelt concerns of the faculty. We hope that students' theological education will draw them closer to the Lord whom we study, their lives becoming more and more devoted to him, to his church, and to the work of his kingdom.
