Our online RN-to-BSN program is designed for registered nurses who have an associate's degree or diploma in nursing and want to complete requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Everything about the program revolves around working nurses like you who lead busy lives. The curriculum for this program builds on previous nursing education and includes components that are not part of two-year programs.

Admission Criteria

Students are admitted to the online RN-to-BSN program to begin courses in the fall, spring or summer.

  • Completed application (essay required within application)
  • Three professional reference forms
  • Active, unencumbered RN license
  • An approved background check
  • Minimum post high school cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Personal interview if requested
  • Students taking six or more credits may be eligible for financial aid while working on courses intended to meet the liberal art core requirements if taken prior to formal admission into the nursing program. An example of when this might be applicable is if a student is attempting to raise their GPA to gain admission into the RN-to-BSN program. If you are advised to do so, complete the Pre-Professional Nursing Application for Admission.


A total of 124 credits is required to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  • 40 from a 4-year institution
  • 26 from USF to establish residency

The length of time it will take you to complete the RN-to-BSN program will depend on the number of liberal arts courses you will need to complete. However, the pace of completion of this program is flexible in response to your needs as a practicing registered nurse. You will be assigned a faculty advisor who will remain your advisor throughout the program.
