In the fall of 2008, USF received a $2 million grant from the Department of Education to start a nursing program.  The Title III grant provides funding for a number of activities, including the development of new academic programs, to help strengthen eligible institutions.  USF received this 5-year award to start the USF School of Nursing.  In addition to providing funds for a new nursing lab and renovation of existing science lab facilities utilized by nursing students, the grant has allowed for the purchase of a majority of the nursing lab equipment, supplies, and technology, and for the addition of an Activity Director (Director of the USF School of Nursing) and two Nursing Specialists (faculty members).

The School of Nursing is being developed in three “tiers”:  the accelerated track began in January 2010 and graduated its first class in the spring of 2011; the traditional 8-semester track began in the fall of 2009 and will graduate its first class in the spring of 2013; and, finally, an RN-to-BSN track is currently offered online.
