Residence Hall Internet Access
These are the steps to getting your computer hooked up to ResNet (Residential Internet)
1. Plug Your Computer into the network (or connect to a wireless hotspot, where available)
2. Open Internet Explorer and you'll be re-directed to a page asking you to log in to use this resource.
3. Enter the Username and password you use to log into the network in a computer lab.
4. You will be prompted to install the " Cisco Clean Access agent" You must do so to gain access to Resnet.
5.

The clean access agent will launch and look like this:
 Clean_access_2

Enter your username and password and select "remember me" if you don't wish to re-enter this information.

1.        Windows Updates (Windows_Software_Update_Services)

a.       When you see this screen, make sure to click the Update button and then Windows will pop-up an installing updates dialogue box.  You also can force this update by going to Internet Explorer->Tools->Windows Update.  Also, Vista users, make sure your PC has Service Pack 1.  If it doesn’t, make sure (if you have a laptop) to have it plugged in otherwise it will not install.

2.       Anti-Virus (Anti-Virus_Install)

a.       When you see this, you will be offered to download USF’s free Symantec Anti-Virus.  You will only see this check if you have uninstalled ALL OTHER anti-virus programs on your computer.  We do support if students use another anti-virus, however, in the past we have noticed that McAfee, Trend, Avast, Norton, etc., sometimes have trouble with Clean Access.  If this is the case, where McAfee says it’s up-to-date, but Clean Access doesn’t, then the best option is to uninstall your anti-virus program and install the USF anti-virus.

3.       Anti-Virus Definitions (AVSignature_Check)

a.       This makes sure that your anti-virus is up-to-date (within 3 days of the current day.)  Make sure to click the update button but if this doesn’t work, launch (double-click) your anti-virus program (usually located in the lower right hand of the screen) and then look for an option to “Update.”  Other names for this may be “LiveUpdate, Update definitions, etc.”

4.       Also, you can check to see what Clean Access is reporting by right-clicking on the Clean Access tray icon (located in the lower right hand part of the screen, NOT the icon on the desktop) and clicking on “Properties.”  This will tell you what anti-virus program(s) you have installed and what date the definitions are.  These are helpful in case you are having difficulties logging in.

5.       --Mac Users--
Mac Users simply have to download the agent.  You should see a “cca.tar” file on your desktop.  Make sure to open that file and it should place a “package” file on your desktop.  Make sure to double-click the package file and this will install the Clean Access Agent.  You will then be prompted to login to the agent whenever you have a wireless or wired connection on campus.

After you successfully log in, you'll be greeted by the following screen:

Clean_access_1

You must read and accept the terms and conditions to continue.

6.

Make sure to keep Windows and your Anti-Virus current or you will have to update your computer the next time you login through Clean Access.
