New Student Information
  • BILLS – You will receive your bill from the Student Accounts Office in August.  You will be expected to pay your bill by Fall Validation (Sept 2nd).  If you have any questions about your bill, contact the Student Accounts Office in Jorden Hall (605/331-6640).
     

  • CASHING CHECKS Checks up to $50 per day may be cashed in the Student Account Office.  You must have your USF ID or Social Security Number in order to cash a check.

  • CHAPEL Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to come to this special opportunity where we all meet as a community of believers.  During the fall and spring semesters, chapel is held from 10:00 - 10:50 a.m. on Tuesdays, and 10:00 - 10:20 a.m. on Thursdays; Interim chapel is from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.  Chapel is  held in Z-Hall, located in the Salsbury Science Center.  The Campus Ministry Office is located in Glidden Hall.

  • COMPUTER LABS Computer labs are available in Collier Baker Hall, as well as the Mears Library (main floor), the Science Center (2nd floor), Jorden Hall (3rd floor), the Student Center (lower level), Cleveland Center (main floor), and Glidden Hall.

  • CONFIRMING YOUR REGISTRATION - Confirmation of registration is held prior to the first day of classes each semester.   You will receive information regarding confirmation from the Registrar's Office.  

  • FINANCIAL AID – If you are applying for any form of financial aid, you should receive an award letter.  You should review, sign and return your award letter to the Financial Aid Office prior to starting classes at USF.  If you have any questions about financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Office in Jorden Hall (605/331-6623).

  • FOOD SERVICE – The USF Food Service is operated and managed by Aramark Dining Services.  First and second year students living on campus are required to participate in the meal plan.  Off-campus students, faculty and staff may purchase food from the food service (located on main level of Student Center).  The DEN (a small snack shop/store) is located on the lower level of the Student Center.  Flex dollars may be used and students may transfer four meals per week from the main cafeteria to the DEN.  Check with Aramark for more information about this process.

  • HEALTH FORMS – All new full-time students are required to return a health form to the Student Services Office in the Student Center by the start of their first semester at USF.

  • HEALTH SERVICE – USF students are encouraged to use any of the medical providers in the Sioux Falls community and region.  We encourage you to become established with a particular clinic so they get to know you and you in turn get to know them as your provider.

    Healthcare at the Center for Family Medicine is made available to USF students by calling  the clinic at 339-1783.  Prompt attention will be given to your illness or injury and you will be seen in a timely manner.  The Center for Family Medicine is located at 1115 East 20th Street on the Avea McKennan Hospital .  The Center for Family Medicine welcomes you and their staff looks forward to meeting your medical needs.

    USF students are responsible for payment and should provide proof of insurance and payment at the time service is provided.  Students may also stop by the USF Student Services Office if you need assistance.

    Emergency Care
    Students residing in a USF residential facility should contact a Resident Assistant, Assistant Resident Director or Resident Director who will contact emergency personnel to provide you with assistance.

    Trauma Centers are located at both Sioux Valley Hospital and Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

    If you have questions concerning your health care, please contact your Resident Assistant/Resident Director or a Student Services staff person (lower level- Salsbury Student Center).
     

  • I.D. PHOTOS – There is no cost for the original card.  Students will need this card for the food service meal plan, campus activities, sporting events, theatrical events, and exercise equipment as well as in the USF Library.  You will also use your ID card to gain access into main campus buildings. . If you lose or need a new student ID card, you may obtain one at the Student Development for a $15 fee.
     

  • INSURANCE – Anyone who is a full-time USF student is eligible for the Student Health Insurance Program.  A brochure will be sent with information about this program.  Insurance for dependents may be purchased by students.  Claim forms are available in the Student Development Office. 
     

  • LIBRARY – All USF students may use the services of the USF Library.  A USF Student ID is needed in order to check out books and resources.  The library also contains a computer lab where students can access their free USF e-mail accounts and the Internet.

  • MAIL – If you live off-campus, stop by the Mailroom in Pierce Hall to be assigned a free mailbox.  On-campus students also will receive a mail box.
     

  • MID-TERM GRADES – Mid-term grades will be produced by the Registrar's Office during fall break/spring break.  You may pick them up in the Registrar's Office shortly after you return for classes.

  • PARKING – You will be issued a parking permit for a specific lot If you plan to have a vehicle on campus.  The permit is interchangeable between vehicles and may be purchased from the Student Accounts Office in Jorden Hall.  The permit cost is included in the University Access & Technology Fee.

  • RESIDENCE HALL ROOM ASSIGNMENTS – All full-time, traditional age freshman and sophomore students are required to live on campus.  If you are planning to live on-campus in a residence hall, you need to complete a housing application and make a $100.00 housing deposit.  After you’ve returned the completed housing application and made the deposit, you will receive your room assignment.  If you have any questions, contact the Student Development Office in the Student Center's lower level (605/331-6620). 
      

  • STUDENT HANDBOOK – Every USF student is required to read the USF Student Handbook.  A complete copy of the handbook is available on the USF Home Page (http://www.usiouxfalls.edu/stuserv/hbook/student_handbook_2002.pdf) or you may pick one up in the Student Services Office.
     

  • STUDENT CENTER – The Student Center is a place to relax between classes and to just hang out with friends. Aramark operates a full-service food service operation.  Residence Life, Dean of Students, Career Services, Student Services, Student Association, and Student Volunteer Office are located in the lower level of the building. Java City is the lounge in the lower level of the Student Center where this is a TV, computer lab and food items. Come have a cup of coffee (Java City) or a sandwich.

  • TEXTBOOKS – Books for classes may be purchased at the USF Bookstore (located in Pierce Hall).  Please become familiar with the Textbook Refund Policy in the Student Handbook.  Also listed on bulletin boards around campus are used books being sold by various students.

*The first week of each semester the bookstore will be open 15 minutes before each evening class.
  • TRANSFER OF COLLEGE CREDIT – If you are transferring from another college (s), official transcripts must be sent to the USF Admissions Office as soon as possible if you want to receive academic credit.

  • WORK OUT FACILITIES Work out equipment is available in the Stewart Center and Pierce Hall.  Check each building for hours of operation.  You must bring your student ID to use the facilities.
