Faculty Vacancy Announcement for Theatre/Performing Arts
The University of Sioux Falls invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track faculty position to begin in the fall of 2013 in Theatre and
Performing Arts. Rank and salary are commensurate with education and
experience. Applications will be reviewed beginning immediately; however,
applications will be accepted until the position is successfully filled.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must possess a qualifying
terminal degree (MFA, Ph.D., Ed.D. or other advanced degree in related area)
and have demonstrated experience in producing successful and varied types of
theatre productions. In addition the candidate must possess successful
higher education teaching in theatre as well as demonstrated leadership
capacity to create, organize, and implement large projects. A
demonstrated capacity relative to team-building across multiple disciplines
within the performing arts area is a key component of the position.
In addition, a proven record of engaging and recruiting students, and innovation
in effectively using organizational resources to achieve established goals with
a collegial and mission driven approach. Proven skills in written, oral
and interpersonal communication and the experience and ability to teach
effectively are essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct theatre program, to include primary
charge for productions
·
Teach assigned course-load within the
Communication Studies and Theatre (CST) department and/or other areas deemed
necessary by the University
·
Provide regular academic advising with students
in the CST major and others as assigned
·
Oversee budget for Theatre Department and other
assigned administrative duties
·
Engage students in theatre productions, box
office sales, projects and events
·
Work in conjunction with admissions department
for the purpose of meeting student recruitment goals for the theatre program
·
Provide leadership in advancing the institution
through collaboration of performing arts area, especially as it relates to
external outreach and development
·
Serve as liaison between the University and
external organizations for the purpose of seeking positive University exposure
leading to mutually beneficial community and regional partnerships
·
Seek and develop innovative programming within
the performing arts designed to engage the external community and enhance
student recruitment efforts for the University
·
Effectively supervise personnel hired to assist
with theatre productions and/or within the CST department
·
Additional responsibilities include
undergraduate advising, program assessment, and service on faculty
committees
LOCATION
The University of Sioux Falls, founded in 1883, is a Christian, liberal arts
university of over 1,600 students (including non-traditional and graduate
programs) affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA, and the Council
of Christian Colleges and Universities. The University of Sioux Falls is
accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
The University offers a demanding liberal arts education in 29 fields of study,
as well as graduate degrees in education and business administration. With
nearly 200,000 people in the surrounding area, Sioux Falls is the largest city
in South Dakota. Located at the intersection of Interstate 29 and
Interstate 90, it is a hub for regional transportation, culture, entertainment,
commerce, medicine, and shopping. An attractive and progressive
community, it is also one of the fastest growing financial centers in the
nation. There are excellent public and private schools, a symphony orchestra, a
community playhouse, and other programs in the arts. There are three major
hospitals, over thirty parks with multiple sports facilities and a bike trail
that follows the Big Sioux River as it encircles the city. In Sioux Falls
the crime rate, unemployment statistics, and taxes are extremely low when
compared to other parts of the United States. South Dakota has no
state income tax and many nearby opportunities for camping, boating, fishing,
hunting, and other year-round recreational activities.
