Have graduated from an accredited South Dakota high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA of) 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale. Home schooled students will be allowed to provide supplemental information if this requirement is not applicable. Have a composite ACT score of 24 or greater (or the SAT equivalent). Agree, in writing, to stay in South Dakota and work in a critical need occupation after graduation for as many years as the scholarship was received, plus one year. Apply for the first Dakota Corps Scholarship for a school period that begins within one year of high school graduation, or within one year of release from active duty of an active component of the armed forces. Attend a participating South Dakota college as an undergraduate student in a program that will prepare the student to work in a critical need occupation. Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
Among those that qualify, recipients will be chosen based on GPA, test scores, activities, honors, community service, and a written essay. Not all eligible applicants will be selected for a scholarship. From the total pool of applicants, a limited number of recipients will be selected. Also, some South Dakota colleges may limit the number of scholarship recipients they accept, or not participate at all. Bill Barlow “Second Chance” Scholarship
This scholarship provides an award for the first year of higher education at an accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school for students from the Sioux Falls area who have a financial need, and who are not normally eligible for such awards because they developed a motivation late in life or after leaving high school. Applicants who did not receive a traditional high school diploma, who entered the work force after graduation, or who were not the top students in previous academic work but who demonstrate personal growth and motivation through an improving academic record, strong work ethic, or some other factor will |

| Hatterscheidt Foundation |

Fred W. Hatterscheidt was a prominent Aberdeen businessman in the 20th Century. He and his wife, Ruth, left an endowment through the Hatterscheidt Foundation, Inc. to aid area students hoping to further their education. Scholarships are for $1,500 made in two equal payments of $750 sent directly to USF. The scholarship is awarded for one year only. To apply the student must be a South Dakota resident graduating from a South Dakota high school in 2010. Student must show financial need and must apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA form). Student must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Student must be accepted for admission to the University of Sioux Falls. Student must be a “full-time student” or carry a minimum of 12 credit hours. Student must maintain a 2.0 GPA in college to retain scholarship. Student must submit a “thank you” letter to the Hatterscheidt Foundation, Inc. Contact the Financial Aid Office to request a Hatterscheidt Scholarship application.

| This scholarship is made possible by bequests of Dorothy Day Davenport who passed away in 1980. Mrs. Davenport was a long time member of Mary Chilton Chapter DAR and sought to promote the goals and purposes of the organization in her community. Scholarship amount is $6,000. In order to apply for this scholarship the applicant must be a South Dakota resident, a full-time student, and the applicant must also have at least a 3.0 GPA.
