The University of Sioux Falls offers parking permits to all current students, faculty and staff. All vehicles must be registered annually and a new parking permit must be received each year. A vehicle registration form must be completely filled out in order to receive a permit. The vehicle’s license plate number must be listed. All vehicles not registered or displaying a current parking permit maybe be ticketed and/or towed.
Students will receive their permits as they go through Validation at the beginning of the academic year. After Validation, students may visit Campus Security in the library to receive a permit.
Employees will receive their permits at the Fall Staff Workshop. After that, they will need to visit Campus Security to receive a permit.
Automobiles may be parked on campus only if they have a current parking permit clearly displayed. Vehicles should be parked in lots marked with colors corresponding to the color of the permit (purple for students who live on-campus; gold for faculty, staff and students living off-campus).
Other signs indicate special parking spaces, specifically reserved for Resident Directors, people with disabilities, college-owned vehicles and the US Postmaster. Unauthorized vehicles parked in these spaces may be ticketed and/or towed.
Parking in reserved spaces, or parking in any “permit required” lot without a permit is considered a parking violation. Improper parking includes blocking sidewalks, traffic lanes, fire lanes, loading zones, or driveways; using more than one parking space; parking in a spot that is not a designated parking space; blocking other vehicles or parking backward in spaces.
Parking tickets will be given out to those violating the parking regulations as defined above. Some common violations and fines include:
Parking in a fire lane $ 50.00
Parking in a handicap space $ 50.00
Other offenses $ 25.00
Along with the parking fines a vehicle may also be subject to towing. All fire lane and parking areas are marked in accordance with city and state codes.
Students should pay for their parking tickets in the Business Office. If the ticket remains unpaid after 30 days, it will be charged to the student’s account (once the ticket has been placed on the student’s account, the student should make payment for it in the Business office, Jorden 204). Other individuals (who are not students) who receive tickets should contact the Business Office to arrange payment. If you feel a ticket was received in error or you would like to dispute the ticket you receive, please contact Kevin Grebin, Director of Campus Security (office located on 4th floor of Jorden Hall, room 411 or call 331-6591).
