CLEP Testing

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) provides students the option of earning college credit without enrolling in college courses. USF is an institutional testing center which means we provide CLEP testing only for our students and former students.

A student may earn up to 32 semester hours of credit toward a degree at the University of Sioux Falls through CLEP or other equivalency examination. CLEP credit will be allowed only for the special subject examinations and only for scores equivalent to the grade of 'C' or better. No grades will be indicated for CLEP credit on the transcript other than Pass.

CLEP Testing is administered through the Academic Success Center.  Individuals must set up an appointment--typically on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons--to take a computer-based CLEP exam.  Call Dr. Greg Dyer, Director at (605) 271-3100 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  (Please be sure to include the words "CLEP Testing" in the subject line of your email.)

The cost to take a CLEP exam is $72 to be paid by credit card at the time of testing.  USF students will pay a $15 transcription fee for each credit hour, plus a $15 transcription fee once the credit is granted.

The specific CLEP subject examinations allowed and the corresponding University of Sioux Falls course credit that can be earned are as follows:
