USF LOFT SPECIFICATIONS

Some USF beds are not designed to be lofted (Burgess, Grand Island).  Any construction of a loft or bunking of a bed is the sole responsibility of the individual student. USF is not responsible for damage or injury resulting from beds which have been bunked or lofted.

1.
Kroske Hall, Collier Baker and Sullivan Hall are equipped with loft kits for beds.

2. Lofts must be free standing. They cannot be attached to or supported by walls in any way.

3.
The build height of the loft should not exceed 5 feet. (When the bed frame and mattress are  placed on top of the loft the total height should not exceed 5 feet 10 inches). Grand Island Hall rooms have built in bookshelves. You may want to account for this in your construction. (From the bottom shelf to the floor is 63 1/2 inches). The loft space available between the desk and dresser measures 85 inches.

4. Lofts should be sturdy and durable. We recommend 2x6 construction.

5. Bed frames are standard steel frames which measure 36" wide by 6'6" long (some frames may vary in length). Bed frames have either removable legs or legs that fold under the bed.

6. Beds must have legs replaced and returned to their original position before checking out of the room.

7.
Bed frames can be supported by cross braces as shown, or a braced plywood board. Some form of additional bracing is required.
