USF Football: Getting Rude Introduction to DII
Author: Sayre Bedinger

It has been more than awhile since theUniversity of Sioux Falls football team wasn't the most dominant team when theytook the football field every Saturday afternoon or night.

Even dating back to my high school days, I still remember all of the newspaperclippings that were essentially preparatory for opposing teams:

USF Crushes "Your School Name Here"

Because of the Cougars' dominance, they made the move to Division II. And intheir first two games, they have predictably struggled.

The Cougars lost their first game at Bob Young Field to 18th ranked Washburn.

Then, two weeks later they dropped their second game of the season to secondranked Northwest Missouri State University 52-17, a score that USF play, coaches, and fans are definitely used to being on the other end of.

This type of initiation is one that comes with any positive change incompetition. Instead of playing the guys at Morningside College, USF jumped toa division where this week they will take on a team that just got done playingthe Kansas Jayhawks.

Still, one has to believe that brighter days are ahead for the Cougars and thefootball program. With the change to Division II, recruiting will change andhopefully sooner rather than later, USF will be right back where it belongs.
