His Life Today:

Christian Begeman is a Special Projects Coordinator at Midcontinent Communications, as well as a freelance photographer/e-columnist for South Dakota Magazine. After USF, he worked at the ABC-affiliated television station in Sioux Falls, KSFY, from 1996-1999 before moving to Midcontinent Communications.

USF Taught Him to Adapt:

Begeman came to USF as a basketball player with high hopes of being an athletic standout. After two years, he says, he realized that was not to be. "I then joined the concert chorale, which opened up a whole new range of friends and appreciation for things like the fine arts," he explains. "Having friends in athletics as well as fine arts turned out to be something that helped me grow as a person more than I realized at the time."

Preparation for Life

There were just five students in Begeman's high school graduating class, so USF's student population seemed very big to him. "One of the most important things I learned at USF was how to act, learn and be a part of a community that was a lot bigger and more diverse than anything I had experienced before," he says.

Friends Around the World

"I keep in touch with a variety of folks from college days, and a handful of them I consider as true, lifelong friends," he says. "In 2013, I visited an old college buddy and his family who are teachers in the Middle East. I would have never had that kind of experience without my USF connections."
