Jill Eggleton is an international educational consultant in literacy, with a wide range of teaching experiences, spanning over thirty years. In New Zealand she has taught in many schools of varying economic and cultural backgrounds while assisting her husband, Nelson, in establishing highly progressive schools with national recognition in literacy achievement. As a classroom teacher Jill was discovered by U.S. reading specialists and education administrators who made frequent visits to her classroom in New Zealand to observe her in action.
Jill believes that the keys to learning are practice, success, and enjoyment and that what children learn with pleasure, they will not forget. Her passion is to provide resources for teachers and children that will motivate them and stimulate and enrich their lives. This has led Jill to write for children, and she is a published author of several poetry books and over 700 children’s books. These books are designed for children beginning their literacy journeys.

I’ve attended Jill Eggleton’s Literacy Institute multiple times and every time I learn more and solidify my literacy teaching and beliefs. I believe in Jill’s philosophy of balanced literacy and the approach to connect all literacy learning to context/meaning. Jill’s shared reading books are magical for the students. I absolutely love to share a big book and/or poem with my students that they are excited about. Reading with my students is exceptional when using Jill’s approach and resources. When I use my learning from Jill to teach literacy my students LOVE reading!
Melanie Schneider, Literacy in Action Teacher
Jill Eggleton inspires teachers to light the fire of literacy within every child! In days when teaching seems so complicated, Jill challenged me to “Keep it simple! The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary, so that the necessary may speak.” Jill gave me tools and texts to help the children in my classroom love reading and writing. Come to this Institute ready to be affirmed in what you are doing, challenged to learn new things and inspired to teach the next generation!
