Nancy D. Wilcoxson, M.M.
Assistant Professor, Music / Director of Vocal Music
Ms. Wilcoxson has been on the USF faculty since 1988. From 1988 to spring of 2006, she was a part-time faculty member, teaching applied voice and directing a women's choir. In the fall of 2006, Ms. Wilcoxson became full-time, still teaching voice and directing the women's choir but adding courses which include Music History, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Diction, Introduction to Music and Foundations of Music Theory. In the past, she was the director of the University's Opera Workshop program; she will again add this program to her list of courses beginning in the fall of 2013.
Ms. Wilcoxson has done a great deal of adjudicating vocal contests in South Dakota and the surrounding states including solo and ensembles contests for voice and the South Dakota Honor Choir. Being the vice president of Sounds of South Dakota, Inc. is part of her responsibilities. Sounds of South Dakota, Inc. is an organization which promotes opera in the state of South Dakota and the region. The organization produces an annual Fairytale Opera in the Park as part of the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation program, as well as other events including producing the September 2012 performance of The Magic Flute with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science.
Ms. Wilcoxson is a graduate of the University of Sioux Falls, receiving her bachelor's degree in 1985. She then went on to pursue a master's degree in music from the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1988. She worked towards a doctorate, attending the University of Northern Colorado from 1990-1992.
