The University of Sioux Falls is honored to host the 45th annual South Dakota High School Honor Choir July 29 to August 3 on the USF campus. A finale concert including a special reunion choir performance will be open to the public at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, at the Mary W. Sommervold Hall of the Washington Pavilion.

State honor choir is a prestigious, unique experience that brings together 150 high school students from across the state who are selected on the basis of rigorous auditions. For the week of the camp, students sing intensively under the direction of a respected choral conductor, which culminates in a presentation of choral works representing the finest works of western art.

This year’s director, Judith Herrington, brings more than 35 years of conducting and teaching experience to her work at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Washington, and is a recipient of the Inspirational Faculty Award and Murray Foundation Chair for Teaching Excellence.

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the South Dakota High School Honor Choir, a reunion choir open to all honor choir members from 1974 to 2017 will gather and rehearse August 1 to 3 on the USF campus, conducted by the renowned Randolf Stenson.

At the final performance on August 3, the 2018 South Dakota High School Honor Choir will perform 10 individual selections in addition to two combined numbers with the reunion choir. Additionally, the reunion choir will perform four of their own titles.
