New USF Community Band to Bring Musicians Together
New USF Community Band to Bring Musicians Together
October 12, 2021
The University of Sioux Falls is proud to announce the creation of the USF Community band.
The new ensemble is designed to provide an opportunity for interested community members to make music and enjoy fellowship with other local musicians.
“This band is really intended as a form of service to the Sioux Falls community, where we can come together and create something beautiful,” said Dr. Jonathan Neiderhiser, director of instrumental music at USF. “Don’t we all need that right now?”
The band, which currently has more than 50 regular members, is open to any instrumentalist interested in rehearsing and performing with the group. The USF Community Band welcomes musicians who currently perform at church or community ensembles, as well as instrumentalists of all ages who haven’t picked up an instrument since high school or college. No auditions are required, and the ensemble is still accepting members.
The USF Community Band was created in collaboration with Augustana University. The new USF Community Band will rehearse and perform in the fall, and the Augustana Blue and Gold Band will rehearse and perform in the spring, which will allow community musicians the opportunity to participate in both ensembles.
Two performances will take place this fall, on November 21 in conjunction with a USF Instrumental Concert, and on December 5.
